Medical Acupuncture can also be known as Dry Needling, they are very much in the same. Medical Acupuncture is the process of affecting muscle and fascia through needles of which normal soft tissue therapy may not work. Based in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham LIVEWELL Health offer Medical Acupuncture across the Midlands but are looking to expand this service across the UK in line with our current UK wide coverage.
What is Medical Acupuncture?
First, let us explain what the difference is between Acupuncture and Medical Acupuncture. Acupuncture is a form of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and has been around for a very long time, and there are many approaches to learning and practising it and is typically used as an Hollistic treatment across the entire body with no main focus on Injury sites. Medical Acupuncture however is the term used to describe acupuncture performed by a doctor or highly trained practitioner such as Physiotherapist, Osteopath, Chiropractor or Sports Therapist who has been trained and licensed in Western medicine who has also had thorough training in acupuncture as a speciality practice. As such Medical Acupuncture usually incorporates a range of other soft tissue techniques aside from Needling to effect change and aid in the recovery process of an injury and is therefore more specifically focused.
We currently offer this service in only a few areas around the UK, for further information please contact us.
Benefits of Medical Acupuncture
Medical Acupuncture is a system offering benefits and influence over three main areas of health care:
- assisting in the promotion of health and well-being,
- aiding in the prevention of illness,
- treatment of numerous medical conditions.
While medical acupuncture is often associated with pain control, in the hands of a properly-trained practitioner it has much broader applications in the repair and recovery and a number of injuries and illnesses. Medical Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment used, or as part of a wider serious of treatments in many medical and surgical disorders. The WHO (World Health Organisation) recognises the use of medical acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems, including:
- Digestive disorders such as IBS, Gastritis, Constipation and Diarrhea.
- Respiratory disorders such as Bronchitis, Asthma etc.
- Neurological Disorders such as Migraines and Headaches etc
- Muscular Tightness and Pain such as Neck Pain, Back Pain, Limb Pain, Frozen Shoulder, Tennis & Golfers Elbow, various forms of tendinitis, Sciatica, osteoarthritis and much more.
Medical Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related to tension and stress and emotional conditions as well as many soft tissue and muscular disorders and problems.
